Kershaw goes #1 in Bridesburg APBA League draft

Bridesburg APBA League

Opening Day at the Bridesburg APBA League

Brian Cavanaugh sent me an update on the Bridesburg APBA League new season.  It seems the league is really thriving and has now expanded to fifteen teams!

“15 participants in the draft chose from a hat that contained 3 cards each labeled #’s 2-15 with 1 extra card with the lucky #1 (42 cards and only one #1). Series runner up Scuba Divers, choosing second from the hat walk away with the 1st overall pick for the second straight year which was turned into Clayton Kershaw. Unlike the previous two drafts which saw offense go early and often, this year saw a surprising number of teams targeting “A” starters in the first round. A high number of Phillies were also taken early.

Here is a complete rundown of the first round:

1) Scuba Divers: Clayton Kershaw P

2) Leprechauns: Justin Verlander P

3) Bomb Squad: Roy Halladay P

4) Thunder: David Price P

5) Red Tigers: Cliff Lee P

6) Rockets: Cole Hamels P

7) Bombers: Johnny Cueto P

8) Senators: Jered Weaver P

9) Wookies: Chase Utley 2B

10) Red Wings: Vance Worley P

11) Shredders: Ryan Howard 1B

12) Heat: David Ortiz: 1B/DH

13) Man Children: Matt Kemp OF

14) Lightning: Albert Pujols 1B

15) Convicts: Ian Kennedy P

The popularity of the game is growing at the club. Fifteen teams drafted with 8 new teams drafting. Two additional teams were formed a day after the draft using free agents who were not drafted or chosen after the draft ended. I warned the two players that not many good players remained and that did not deter them, they both just wanted to be a part of the league. We are average 3 games each a day over the 5 days of the week. It is an exciting and fun time of the year!!!”

I’m enjoying following the Bridesburg APBA League’s progress on the Facebook page that Brian has set up for the league.  It’s full of updates, photos, even team logos.  Those on Facebook who are interested might want to follow them.

Congrats to the Bridesburg APBA League and good luck to everyone this season!!

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
