Draft Day: signs of desperation

With the Illowa APBA League draft convention one day away, it’s beginning to be crunch time.  I have six pitchers and just one graded starter on my pitching staff at this point.  The only good news is that I have six draft picks including the #1 pick, for our upcoming rookie draft (David Price, anyone?).

Tips on trading

Advanced Fantasy Baseball has “Ten Fantasy Baseball Trade Secrets”.  It was posted last May and admittedly is geared toward fantasy baseball not APBA.  However, most of the tips still apply.

Concern yourself with the end result more than the price. You may think giving up a certain keeper for a collection of players you [...]

List of 2009 rookies

For those who will be entering draft time sometime soon, here is a list (in pdf form) of the 2009 rookies that our commissioner put together.
For the players, it includes playing time including games at secondary positions.  For pitchers, it includes playing time as well as W-L record and ERA.
One warning:  the list [...]

2009 IAL DRAFT REVIEW

A yearly tradition, IAL manager Teddy Ballgame does a lengthy draft review a few days after our rookie draft.  He critiques each pick, gives each team on how they drafted and lists players he thinks may have been overlooked.
Whether or not you are in the IAL, it’s an enjoyable read.

Longoria, Bruce headline AABA draft

Nick Tegeler emailed me as soon as he got back from from the 2009 All American Baseball Association draft weekend with his report.  According to AABA rules, they draft players that are unowned from the previous year.  Their league has 18 teams, 180 picks and 40 man rosters.
This is how their first round went: [...]

My first trade of the off-season

A week or so ago, I made my first trade in the IAL.  We did it with our ol’ trading buddy, DonS and his Molly Putts Marauders.  At first sight, it looks like a barn-burner:

My first round pick and Ramon Hernandez
for
Highlanders’ first round pick and Mark Hendrickson

…and I guess it is.  But consider that [...]

In our first league draft submission, Rod Caborn of the Orlando APBA Association (OAPBA) writes to let us know how their draft went.
