Posey goes #1 in 2011 RCMBA draft

John Briggs from the Roberto Clemente Memorial Baseball Association lets us know how the draft transpired in his league.  San Francisco catcher Buster Posey was the number one pick.

According to John, the RCMBA drafts carded rookies and non-rostered carded vets.  The RCMBA draft lasted 8 rounds.

Here is how their first round went:

1- Posey
2- Heyward
3- Stanton
4- Santana
5- Bautista
6- Strasburg
7- Alvarez
8- Bumgarner
9- Hart
10- Hudson,D
11- Brown
12- Hellickson
13- Walker,N
14- Johnson,C
15- Chacin,J

You can see the full draft order at the RCMBA website.

As an aside, the RCMBA also kept track of their #1 picks throughout their 34 year history and posted them on their website.  It’s a fun read especially when comparing with my own league’s #1 picks.  A lot of them are the same.

Good luck in 2011, RCMBA!!

  1. Ok, all this talk about Posey going #1 has to stop. He has to last 5 picks in my league so I can pick him. :)

  2. Trade up! Trade up!

  3. Buster Posey & Jason Heyward will go #1 or #2 in the IAL Rookie Draft, no matter how you slice it. Corey Hart, Jose Bautista, Domonic Brown, Jeremy Hellickson, & Chris Johnson all went a little high IMHO, while Starlin Castro, Jaime Garcia, & Jhoulys Chacin lasted longer than I thought they should’ve. Some other surprises were Colby Lewis, Sean Marcum, & Jason Vargas being taken ahead of Brian Duensing, Clayton Richard, R.A. Dickey, & Ian Kennedy. Nice value picks were relievers Matt Capps, Sean Marshall, & Sergio Romo. Not sure about Mitch Moreland over Justin Smoak or in which order Craig Kimberl, Chris Sale, & Kenley Jansen should have been taken.

  4. Looking at this I could see that the RCMBA must have larger rosters (and that turns out to be true, looking at their site). A number of limited usage guys went higher than they will go in the IAL (which has 26-man rosters) where a lot more consideration has to be given to playing time.

I’ve got the #6 pick in the IAL draft, and its going to be very interesting to see who drops to me. I know I’ll get my hands on someone good, I just have no idea who it will be!

  5. Buster Posey over Jason Heyward. Would not have guessed that.

I have the 2nd pick in ILLOWA Draft. I expect Posey, Heyward or Jaime Garcia to be the First Pick.

The guy with the First Pick won’t tell. I never tell, either.

Rob: Pigskin Pete Predicts: Sixth pick is about where Mike Stanton or Bumgarner will go.

  6. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your weblog?

My blog is in the exact same area of interest as yours and my users would certainly benefit from some of the information you present here.

Please let me know if this okay with you. Appreciate it!
