Dan Oliverio’s project is an ode to Spatz’s Chicagoland tourney

With a heavy heart, Rob Spatz came to the conclusion that the Chicagoland APBA Baseball tournament was not going to happen. Scheduled for August, there was no guarantee that the 48 participants could attend safely given the COVID-19 virus.

I know this was the right move but it was a difficult decision for Rob to make. He pours his heart and soul into the gathering every time.

Enter Dan Oliverio who is providing a slight reprieve to the situation. He is doing a replay branded “CHICAPBA 2020” which will recreate the tournament using the exact same 48 teams that participants had chosen for the now-cancelled August 2020 tourney.

Even better, he is proposing that those participants can help! Those who want to be part of this project can provide lineups and pitching rotations for the team they originally drafted.

Dan says:

The Originally drafting “OWNERS” may message me with starting pitchers and lineups…or I will “be the manager”…

I will message 2 days before games commence but you can send to me at any time before games are played…..

There is still life for my 1974 Cubs!

You can read more about this effort on Dan’s post on Facebook.

I love the idea! And it is a ode to Rob’s hard work for Chicagoland!

Keep us updated, Dan!
