Tyler Colvin Watch: a vote for the All-Star Game might boost his confidence

I’m chronicling the exploits of Tyler “51-13” Colvin as he makes it through the 2012 season on my IAL Twin City Thunderchickens.

With the Illowa APBA League in a short hiatus with our late All-Star break this year, there hasn’t been a lot of dice rolling in the league lately.  We did get the results back from the All-Star ballots back, however.

None of my Twin City Thunderchickens were voted in as starters but there was some excitement in the clubhouse.  Tyler Colvin, currently hitting an anemic .146 with 4 homers in 192 at-bats, got a third place vote.  It was meaningless as far as the results were concerned, of course.  That wasn’t to say there weren’t any back-slapping and high-fiving with his teammates though.  “I could’ve used that vote,” joked Albert Pujols who will miss his second All-Star starting bid in a row.

The manager who cast the third place vote remains a secret but it’s not me (managers can’t vote for their own players).  One can only assume that Colvin’s exposure in the press got him the extra attention he needed for the symbolic vote.

The full rosters for the upcoming All-Star game have also been released.  Marcus Bunch, manager of the Country Gents (ie the Downstate Division) and Chuck Lucas of the City Boys (ie Chicago Division) have submitted their pitchers and substitutes to go along with the starting lineup.  It looks like a matchup between Justin Verlander and Jered Weaver in the 2012 Classic.

As for us Thunderchickens, Pujols will be joined by Nick Markakis and Troy Tulowitzki as able reserves for the good guys.

Tyler will just have to wait till next year.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
