Followup on the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club APBA League

Yesterday, I posted a league profile of the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club Baseball League based in Philadelphia.  Brian Cavanaugh, who is their contact person, followed up with me and gave me some good details on their season from this year.

He writes:

“After a couple of days worth of recruiting and a lengthy draft, our season was ready to begin. As an avid APBA player I own  cards for the 1977, 1994, 1997 and 2000 seasons. It was decided that we would use the 2000 cards because they were the only set that had the stats for the players listed on them which would help the kids in their drafting since most of the kids were only 2 or 3 years old in 2000. The kids fell in love with the game the minute they began to play. We designated a playing time each day and soon the kids were shopping players to fll their needs and our stat book had reached holy grail status. Despite the success of the league there were some difficulties as kids would miss random days or would go away for vacation. The requirements post season play were that each team had to play a minimum of 14 games and no more than 24 games. The top 8 teams qualified for postseason play. The teams were seeded 1 through 8  with the first round being a single elimination game followed by a best of 3 LCS and best of 5 World Series.”

From all I’ve heard, it sounds like everyone had a good time. Kudos to the Scuba Divers manager(s) who came back to win it all.

Thanks for writing, Brian and please let us know how the 2011 season goes!!  As for me, I’m glad someone is treating the youngsters out there to the wonders of APBA (not to mention the sport of Baseball).
