Call for interview questions for APBA CEO John Herson

APBA Company CEO John Herson has agreed to do an interview before the holidays.  I’m open to any ideas for anything you might want to know about APBA (the games, the company, whatever).

A quick note about my thought process when formulating questions to ask Mr Herson:

When I make a call for ideas or questions when this time comes around, I get a wide range of suggestions.  Sometimes they are specific and that’s ok.  However, I may re-formulate the question to encompass a broader issue.  For example, instead of “Why did so and so get rated as an OF-1?” (that was just an example; I don’t think anyone actually asked that), I might ask a more general question about the general trend of how fielding rating has changed over the years.   Put simply, Herson’s presence here is valuable and I want to make the most of it for everyone’s benefit.

So ask away.  If you don’t eventually see your exact question, read between lines.  I may have taken your question and re-worded it to place it in the broader spectrum.

If you do have a good idea… something YOU want to know, leave it in the comments below, on The APBA Blog Facebook Page or email me.  I’ll be working on the questions for him this weekend.

thanks all!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. I can think of two questions. 1 I have seen APBA release several new season sets, are there plans to some of the seasons they have not yet done sets for previously, primarily the dead ball era?

Question 1.2 Is there any hope of the company ever doing a special set for the 1876 Inagural season, we’re coming up on the 140th anniversary.

Question 2 earlier there was talk about putting the result number 12 in a permanent location. Any further developments?

  2. Pastor Rich Zawadzki

When will we see GTOP Vol. IV?

  3. 1- Will XBs be printed for the baseball sets that are now not available?
2- Are there any plans to reprint football seasons like the game company did with baseball?

  4. Any plans for any new hockey sets especially 60s or early 70s

  5. Are there any new golf courses coming up for the APBA Golf Game?

  6. 1. How about more 19th Century teams?
    2. Would you consider changing Outfielders so that they are based on position not the generic OF rating? It’s always been one the biggest issues I’ve had with the game.

Thank you. Good see APBA back in the spotlight!

  7. Taking into consideration the announcement of online play scheduled for Winter of 2013….when does he think BBW 6.0 will be worked on?

And when it does come out will it mimic the MG Platoon System…..(+5/-2) etc

  8. Will APBA ever produce a great teams set for the Football game. I think it would be great to matchup teams like the 62 Packers vs the 72 Dolphins or the 85 Bears vs the 63 Bears.

  9. Any chance they would republish the All-Time teams, A, B , C, etc. Can’t find those anywhere!

Agree with the others on the OF positions to make it a little more realistic, even if we only play the Basic game.

  10. Hi John,
I think a number of us are on the back side of 50 ( I’m on the back side of 60), I was wondering if you would increase the font size so I don’t get a headache squinting.

    thanks

  11. I would love to see several groups of all-time college football teams. I think it would be fun to form a league with 1946 Notre Dame playing 1956 Oklahoma, etc….

  12. All have been great questions! I am wondering abt GTOTP vol.4 as well. Also, any chance of seeing more team sets. All decade sets for other decades like 80s, 70s & yes the 90s:)
    Thanks
    Shawn

  13. Any chance the bowling game will be revived?

  14. I, too would like to see the bowling game return.
More 19th century baseball, especially 1894.
The National Association has almost all the modern stats need to produce sets (1871, 1872, & 1874 in particular, even GIDP).
At least an all star set, or great teams set

Football – will it ever return to the PC? Will more card sets be released for the 70’s and 80’s?

  16. I am new to APBA baseball, having just started paying in a six-team league this winter. I wanted to purchase the basic game today and the website says that they are out of stock. My question is: how can they be out of stock of the basic game?

  17. I also would like to see return of bowling game. Also, to see baseball cards go back to print style as in 2007. Much easier to read bigger print.
