Tyler Colvin Watch: he’s doing his part

I’m chronicling the exploits of Tyler “51-13” Colvin as he makes it through the 2012 season on my IAL Twin City Thunderchickens.

I just finished my April series with the Three Rivers Gamblers over Skype this morning for the Illowa APBA League.  And you know what, Tyler Colvin made a difference in a game!

It was actually the only game we won against the Gamblers (the fourth game of the six we played).  Tyler Colvin went two for three with a homer and two rbis in a 4-2 win. I hold him responsible for our Thunderchickens not getting swept by Fielder, Braun and the rest of the Gamblers.

His rbi single in the second inning was a 44-8 which made me do a double-take (surely someone with a 15-17 wouldn’t have a nice juicy 8 at 44).  Facing pitcher Mike Minor (CX), that’s a hit and he drives home Albert Pujols!  His second rbi was a simple solo homer to lead off the fifth inning.  Once you get into the second column with Tyler, those ones aren’t hard to find.

Alas, his batting average has stayed the same since we last checked.  He remains at .176 with 2 dingers and 4 rbis in 51 at-bats.

Player G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB HBP AVG SLG OBP
Colvin, T. 18 51 3 9 2 0 2 4 2 15 0 0 .176 .333 .208

I’d like to say that Colvin is taking up the rear as the worst hitting player on my roster.  Unfortunately, utility man Felipe Lopez has that honor.  FeLo is 3 for 29 for a nifty .103 mark.

Our winning ways won’t change much in May, I’m afraid.  A sneak preview… I’ve played my cross-town rivals, the Rising Bamm! Beanos for May and a 2-7 mark is the best I could do.  I’ve said it before.  It’s going to be a long season.

But please don’t blame Tyler Colvin.  He’s doing all he can.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Question: Where do you bat Colvin in the batting order?

Reason I ask: I have Vernon Wells. Similar APBA card. Right down to the 51-13 and the 41=28. About double the games and at bats of Colvin, which may be good and may be bad.

Vernon has been batting 8th (sometimes 7th following a day that pleased me).

  2. I just had a laugh… I’m playing MLB 2K12 (Xbox 360) in the mode where you create a player and play his career, starting with his draft from college and subsequent placement in AA ball, all the way through his trip to the Hall of Fame, if he’s good enough.

Anyway, my avatar is a closer in AA ball, and low and behold, who did I face the other day in a game, but Tyler Colvin. For the record, I struck him out, LOL.

I enjoy your blog, by the way…
