Weekend Wrap-up: Busy APBA Co. changes its mind on Negro League set

Appended on John Herson’s post talking about new direction of the Company is a laundry list of what APBA is up to these days (I’m liking this new era of transparency).

Among other things, APBA has decided to reverse its decision to re-release the Negro League set which was last issued in the 90s.  I know that will make a few APBA fans happy.

Is APBA moving away from the general concept of tear-apart sheets for cards?   That might be the case.  In the same post, Herson notes:

Within the next two weeks, all the golf card sets will be offered only as cards—no more tearing apart sheets for golf.

AND

2011 Pro Football will be available late July/early August. 2011 football is a card set—no more tearing 160 sheets of cards apart.

It’s never been a deal breaker for me before but I think this is a great move by the Company.

It looks like the surge of deadball sets isn’t over.  Herson also announced that the 1903 season will be next new baseball offered and they are working on getting it out.  The year 1903 is significant, of course, because it featured the first World Series between the American and National Leagues (Boston defeated Pittsburgh 5 games to 3).

Finally, the 2011-12 APBA Hockey card set will be available sometime in late June/early July.

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. As a deadhead, the 1903 set is good news for me. Quite pleased at the direction of the company here.
