Wells didn’t pose for this card… it was taken while ‘at the plate’.
Today’s TCT is 2011 Vernon Wells III aka ‘V-Dub’. IAL manager Don Smith who has Wells on his team has been providing side commentary on Wells’ progress in the comments section on some of my Tyler Colvin Watch articles. Indeed, there are some similarities.
But before we go into what makes Vernon Wells’ 2011 card so ‘terrible’, it should be pointed out that there are some nice perks, too. His OF-3, for example. We also can’t overlook his 1-5-5 power numbers or his 15-10. After that though, it goes downhill pretty quick. I’ll have to give Wells some credit that he actually got 66 rbis and 60 runs in his 529 plate appearances with a .218 batting average and a .248 on-base percentage.

Some lowlights of Wells’ 2011 card:
- 13-13 (let’s face it, he has just one walk)
- 51-13
- 31-40
- 42-32
I will give Wells kudos… he has a 28 at 41. That’s more than I can say for most of my lineup.
For Wells’ 2012 card, don’t expect a drastic improvement though he did hit .229. The bad news for those that use player restriction rules is that he only played half the season.
This is a non-APBA comment but, as a TBJ fan, I loved Wells the man but was so happy when the Angels took him off our hands. Unfortunately (or fortunately for him) Wells is one of those guys that was given a huge contract based on one good season that he has never been able to duplicate.

He was on my team last year, and I rolled well for him. To the tune of a .270 average and 17 homers.
Of course, he was a +8 against LHP so he wasn’t a bad platoon option, as long as you didn’t roll a 13.
