Cast your vote in the 2nd Annual APBA Blog Pitching Grade Challenge!

Update: the Challenge is now closed for further entries. A winner has been announced!

Hey APBA Fans,

With the World Series over and the announcement from the APBA Company that APBA GO cards will be released by the end of the month, it’s time for the APBA Blog Pitching Grade Challenge.

Quite simply, the Challenge is your chance to enter a contest and see how good you are at guessing what grade APBA will give the pitchers of 2019. I’ll list 20 starting pitchers and you will vote on what grade each one will receive.

I started this last year and it was quite popular. Of the 121 participants in 2018, Jesse Elicker was the clear winner, guessing 19 of the 20 pitchers. You can see the results here.

Here’s how the Pitching Grade Challenge works

I have chosen 20 starting pitchers from 2019. Via a web form, you will be able to guess which grade each pitcher will receive in the upcoming set.

Here are some rules and clarifications:

  1. The Challenge will end on November 24th at 11:59pm.
  2. One entry per person, please.
  3. I am only looking for the letter grade for each pitcher and not strikeout or control ratings.
  4. If a pitcher receives a grade as a starter and reliever (split grade) or is graded strictly as a reliever, that pitcher will be dropped from the contest results.
  5. If a pitcher receives an A&C or an A&B grade, he will be considered an A for the sake of this Challenge.
  6. If there is a tie for the most correct guesses, I will place the names of those top entrants in a ball cap and pick the winner.
  7. While I will eventually post an analysis of the aggregate data I will not publicly post your guesses without your permission.
  8. Employees of the APBA Games Company are ineligible (for obvious reasons).  I will not be eligible either.

While I am not entering the contest, I will be making my own guesses too. I’ll post my ballot publicly once the deadline has passed.

Thanks to John Herson and the APBA Company for donating the Grand Prize for the winner. The person who has the most correct guesses will win the 2019 season on APBA GO!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Even tougher since I got Marcus Stroman’s stats wrong. :(

It’s been fixed and anyone who has submitted a ballot before now is welcome to submit another and I’ll accept it.

    Apologies!!
