The Cubs continue their home stand against the visiting Braves today. The Braves have been near the cellar all season. The Cubs still stinging from yesterday’s brutal showing against the Pirates are looking for vengeance. Vic Willis against Jake Weimer today. There was very little action on this game as both pitchers were near their best today. The Cubs fell behind early on Player-Manager Pat Moran’s solo homer to left center in the 4th and the score was still 1-0 Braves in the 7th when a two out double by Maloney tied the game, and the game was won on a furious two out rally in the 8th capped by Johnny Kling’s RBI single for a 2-1 final.

For the Braves Vic Willis who had two no hitters in my 01 replay took this into the fifth before Kling broke it up. Moran and Frank Tenney who have been struggling a bit this year had extra base hits. Moran’s homer was his first of the year. For the Cubs Schulte and Kling continue to improve after tough starts. Schulte is now at .279 and Kling has cleared the “Mendoza line” at .212 Kling now sporting a 4 game hit streak.
