TERRIBLE CARD TUESDAY: 1908 Floyd “Rube” Kroh

By Scott Fennessy

Today’s Terrible Tuesday comes from the 1908 World Champion Chicago Cubs. Floyd “Rube” Kroh. It seems like every team had a “Rube” on it at that time and Floyd was the Cubs version.

Floyd must have been a late season addition to the roster as he appeared in only two games for a total of 12 innings, including a complete game. He actually had a great 1.50 ERA, but alas it was not meant to be.

Floyd had a decent year in 1909, winning nine, but only appeared in 6 games in 1910 and was gone from the majors for good.

As you can tell Kroh was no threat at all when in the batter’s box, having zero traditional hit numbers; in fact, except for the 15-21 and 31-15 he has no way to reach base other than the 6 14’s on his card, or his 45-36, and even on his 36 he needs a W rated pitcher.

How bad is he at bat? This set features error numbers at both 53 and 21 for every other card in the set EXCEPT Rube’s.

Ugly numbers: 13-13, 35-13, 42-13, 51-13, 53-13, 25-23.
