More and more, it seems APBA is crowding our schedules. And that can only be a good thing. On the same day, August 28th, APBA tournaments and events took place in two separate locations took place.
APBA National Convention
In Alpharetta, the national APBA convention and the associated tournaments happened. According to the APBA newsletter, these were the winners:
- Baseball – Steve Skoff and his 2019 Los Angeles Dodgers defeated Kevin Cluff and his 2019 Los Angeles Dodgers three games to two.
- Baseball Home Run Derby – Tyler Wyks using 1958 Don Drysdale defeated Pete Simonelli using 1980 Bob Horner 25 to 20.
- Football – Mike Harlow and his 2018 Kansas City Chiefs defeated John Duke and his 1999 St. Louis Rams by a 30 to 24 final score.
- Hockey – Steve Skoff and his 1975-76 Montreal Canadiens defeated Greg Wells and his 1957-58 Montreal Canadiens two games to none.
- Soccer – Ron Emch and his 2016-17 Tottenham Hotspur F.C defeated Craig Musselman and his 2019-20 Liverpool F.C. by a 5-3 score.
- Horse Racing – The Winner was Jim Cicila with Exceller, Show was Chuck Sorce with Seattle Slew, and Place was a dead heat between Conner Duncan with Nasty and Bold and Skeet Carr with Buckfinder.
- Golf – The par 3 Golf tournament was won by Greg Wells.
Also, there were three inductees to the APBA Hall of Fame. They are:
- John Asalon – 2020, This Week in APBA Broadcaster
- Dr. Rebecca Peterson – 2020, APBA Ambassador
- Steve Ryan – 2021, APBA Ambassador

Glass City APBA Baseball Tournament
On the same day, a little further north, Ron Emch was hosting the 6th annual Glass City APBA Baseball Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. The timing was just right as my son and I were traveling through Ohio at the time so I dropped in the Maumee Elks Lodge for a while. I hung around the GCABT VI tourney for about a half hour chatting up old friends and new.

According to Ron, Ed Trojanowski won the Glass City tourney. Congrats Ed! Ron, it was great to see everyone. Well done!

It’s…not…the “Tottenham Hotspurs.”
It’s not like an American team name. It’s Tottenham Hotspur FC or “Spurs” (not “the Spurs”). Not hard.
