Giving Roy Langhans his due

For those who haven’t heard the news, Long time APBA legend and Hall of Famer Roy Langhans had passed at the end of 2024. Roy was one of those men that seemed to touch a lot of APBA fans’ lives.

Jim Fraasch of Jim’s APBA Barn wrote a very touching piece on Roy giving him his due. It was a long time coming from somebody. Thank you, Jim.

Jim writes:

For many who knew Roy Langhans, you came to expect Roy to always be around. Because he was everywhere, with everyone, at one time or another.

After reading that, I went back to check my photographs of the 2002 APBA Convention. Sure enough, there was Roy in about half of them. My memory is sketchy from that convention but I do remember Roy as a sharp wit yet quiet and unassuming.

Jim’s article on Roy Langhans is full of stories, APBA-laden anecdotes and photographs of Roy. Well worth the read.

The world is a lesser place without Roy but from I can see, we still have our memories of him.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
