If you haven’t browsed to the APBA Games web site recently, you may not recognize it. It has gone through quite a renovation. Using SquareSpace, it has a much more modern feel to it.
That incudes a brand new online shopping interface, too! This was worked on over the past weekend.
The web address for the site hasn’t changed. You can still get to it by browsing to https://www.apbagames.com. I’ve looked around and most everything that was there before can be accessed from the new site. Now, it seems to be more organized.
That includes:
- League updates
- Tournament updates and info
- Helpful downloads
- Newsletter archive
- An archive of information about each game
The APBA Shop
…and oh yes, the APBA online shop. APBA will no longer be using Yahoo Shopping for its transactions. While I didn’t mind Yahoo as it was easy to find what I wanted, it was probably due for an upgrade.
I like the new online interface. Those new to the store just need to learn filter what they want. I tested it and made a purchase of APBA cards. The process took about three minutes.
Here’s a screen shot of the how to filter in the shop. If you click on ‘Category’, ‘Baseball’, then ‘Baseball Cards and Data’, it will bring up every year that APBA has baseball cards or disks for. From there, choose that year and it will bring up a page with the year’s cards, BBW disk and any other items that might be available.
If you know exactly what you want, you can type it in the search bar too.
I’ll note that the roster and lineup sheets are still available from the new store. I get asked about the availability of these sheets on occasion. You will just need to “purchase” them for $0.00. So they are there but it is not quite as friendly as just clicking a link and downloading them instantaneously.
Let’s keep it up to date
I’ll admit that my pet peeve of the old site was seeing years-old news on top of the APBA website. And when there was topical news we should all know, it was not there (thank goodness for Randy Coryer who puts out the APBA Newsletter!).
With the new site’s news feed, we should be kept informed about breaking events as long as it’s kept up to date. I’m looking forward to that. And from my point of view, it’s handy to have a permanent page to link to for each news item. For example, APBA just announced the 2024 Pro Football cards are available and I can link to that page.
Overall, I’m happy with the APBA website overhaul as well as online shopping changes. I know some will not like the change because it is different than what we’re used to.
Give it a chance. It may grow on you.
I personally think it is a massive upgrade. I played with it a bit, and it’s very different when searching for sets from the previous version, but once you find it, it’s very well set up so you know exactly what you want to choose.
