How are your 2012 draft picks doing in the majors?

ial 2012 draft 041In our Illowa APBA League, Don Smith has established a tradition to remind the rest of us managers how our first round picks are doing in the majors.  At various points in the season, he’ll send us stats/status updates on each of our #1 picks.  As we are a continuous ownership league, it impacts our strength for the next year.

Don just sent the first installment last night:

Guys,

1) J Hellickson (TomN): 6-0 36 3-0 23-15 2.75

3) M Pineda (Todd): Seriously injured. DL-Season.

4) G Holland (Keith): 0-7 6 0-2 10-4 11.37. 15 day DL.

5) E Hosmer (Tedd): 27-108 3-1-5 1 11-15 .185

Doing this list made me realize that no one traded his first round pick this year.

It looks like a mixed bag for the IAL.  #1 pick Hellickson is turning out fine so far at 3-0 with a 2.75 ERA (nice pick! ;-)).  Don’s pick, Vance “the Vanimal” Worley is also off to a good start, too with 36 Ks in 38 IP and a 2.84 ERA.

Ivan “Super” Nova is an interesting case.  His 5.58 ERA is nothing to brag about but he’s 3-1 and has 28 strikeouts in just 31 innings.

But more notable is the presence of the sophomore slump among the top ten.  Danny Espinosa, Jerome Weeks, and Eric Hosmer are all hitting under .200 (though Hosmer does have five homers).  Reliever Greg Holland got his ERA above 11.00 before going on the DL.  Then there is the issue of starter Michael Pineda.  He’s out for the year.  That won’t work out so badly for Todd, though.  Under our league’s rules, if Pineda doesn’t get a card next year (he surely won’t), Todd will get to pick a rookie in his place in 2013.

For those of you in keeper leagues, how are this year’s rookies panning out in their second year in the majors??
