Champions Upcoming Milestones 34-17

Early in the 2009-10 season the Chicago Champions, of the Illowa APBA League, will reach 3,000 wins (34 to go) and 2,500 losses (17 to go).  I actually joined the IAL in the league’s 2nd year, so I still have a 98-75 personal record to reach those milestones.  Hopefully I’ll…

Ryan Doumit Traded to the Champions

Despite the fact the Chicago Champions finished the regular season with 98 wins, in first place, they are not resting on their laurels.  Trades on happen in the offseason, after the World Series, before the first dice of the new season hit the table.  IAL’s Playoffs, World Series, & Draft…

Last Series of the Year CC/NH – Part III

After an off day yesterday, it was time to resume our last series of the year on the last day of January.  Time for a couple quickies before Mgr. Lucas needed to go to church.  Jake Peavy bested his old team in the opener of the final three games.  Jake…

Last Series of the Year CC/NH – Part II

Northside Hitmen bats remained relatively silent as the two teams entered into their 2nd third of this nine game series.  There was a 4th inning four run outburst against Greg Maddux, which tied the game at four, the Hitmen runs came courtesy of two two-run blasts one by Hunter “Under Pants”…

Last Series of the Year CC/NH – Part I

CLuke & I were scheduled to play the first half of our last series Wednesday night, I know the results are to be to the president by today, but that’s not going to happen.  I was surprised to receive a call from CLuke on my cell, even more surprising, the…

I GOT THE NEW CARDS!!!

This was the best day ever!!!  “I GOT THE NEW CARDS!”, used to generate excitement.  NOTE: I’ve included utility man Chris Burke’s card as proof, nobody, to my knowledge, has posted his, who cares, card.  I remember getting together with friends, for an extended lunch at a local restaurant, to…

ILLOWA APBA LEAGUE HAS CHICAGO OPENING

The Illowa APBA League has been around nearly 35 years.  It started out as an eight team draft league, fell apart after 120 games in its inaugural season, only to rebound strong.  I urge you to checkout at www.illowaapbaleague.com  In the olden days, there were mail, as well as face-to-face…

Greg Maddux Announces Retirement

I drafted Greg Maddux based on a D-Y card he earned with the Chicago Cubs based on his 1987 season.  It turned out to be one of the best picks I’ve ever made.  I needed Maddux to make 42 starts (we allow D’s to double their limits) in his first…

FELIPE’S A CHAMPION

Backed into a corner the Chicago Champions traded Vernon Wells to the Upperdeckers in exchange for Felipe Lopez.  Ever since I first got into the Illowa APBA League nearly 35 years ago, secondbase has always seemed to be a problem spot.  We started off with Rennie Stennett, went to Jorge…
