I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

Abreu goes #1 in the 2015 IAL draft

Through wheeling and dealing by their manager Nick Tegeler, the Iowa Oinkers had the top three picks in the Illowa APBA League draft.  He made good use of them choosing Jose Abreu, Jorge Soler and George Springer in succession.  Here is the entire 2015 IAL rookie draft… 2015   ILLOWA   DRAFT…

TBL, IAL and MWBL to draft this weekend

It seems that this weekend is the big weekend for APBA baseball drafts.  Our Illowa APBA League meets on Friday in Chicago suburbs for the postseason, draft and the start of the 2015 season.  But our league is not the only league drafting this weekend.  Stray Corrado is getting ready…

Terrible Card Tuesday: 1905 Ty Cobb

What’s this?  A fast OF-2 with a 44-7 on a Tuesday?  Appropriately so, since it’s Tyrus Raymond Cobb’s rookie year in 1905.  The charter member of the Hall of Fame began his career with Detroit.  It was first and last time he hit below .300 in his 24 year career. …

Monster Card Monday: 1936 Hal Trosky

Suggested by Pastor Rich Zawadzki, this 1936 Hal Trosky card is quite simply fun.  Just to look at it, it is a thing of beauty.  In 1936, Trosky led the AL with 405 total bases and 162 bases with the Indians.  He had ample extra base hits with 45 doubles…

Get in on the Steel City APBA Baseball Tournament

APBA tournaments are springing up all over the place.  Seeing the fun and success of other tournaments, PA native Ken Schulz decided to get in on the action.  He’s attempting to organize an APBA baseball tournament in Pittsburgh.  After announcing it just a few days ago, Ken already has seven…

Weird Card Wednesday: 1940 Joe Bowman

This 1940 Joe Bowman card comes from Ken Schulz who posted it to Facebook.  Now there’s really only one thing weird about this card but it’s a doozy.  It won’t take long for you to find it.  I’m going to hazard a guess that it’s supposed to be a 13. …

Terrible Card Tuesday: 1979 Stan Papi

I was browsing through my old 1979 cards and ran across Stan Papi of the Red Sox.  Papi was a true “all glove-no hit” type though in ‘79 APBA didn’t see fit to reward his fielding efforts.  1979 was Papi’s first year in the American League after three years with…
