Original1957 mint card set from Len Gaydos’ collection

It’s not every day that The APBA Blog inbox gets an email from an APBA legend but last Saturday just wasn’t any day, I guess.  I got a email from Len Gaydos who along with his brother Ronald, was the original founder of the APBA Journal.

Len and Ronald started the AJ back in 1967.  I’m sure at the time they had no idea it would become the resource it did for an amazing 25 years.  I know I was a subscriber for years and still hearken back to many articles to this day.  Some of the basic principles of card analysis I’ve gleaned from the AJ.

In the course of our discussion and with our business taken care of, Len mentioned that he has a website devoted to finding a new home for his extensive APBA collection.  He also has some rather old baseball books such as Baseball Guides (the kind I used to check out from the library as a kid) and annual Baseball Dope Books for sale.

Most APBA card sets are rated by Len as mint, near mint or very good condition and are in their original envelopes.  Len is letting the buyer suggest the price.

Per Len’s website:

I am interested in selling these items either individually or as a collection.  Please let me know which items you are interested in and at what price.  Preference will be given to bidders who want multiple items or the entire collection.  In addition I have quite a number of issues of The APBA Journal.  Please let me know if you are interested and I’ll identify what I have.

So if you’re interested in expanding your APBA Baseball season sets, check out Len Gaydos’ website.

And if any does buy a card set from Len, let us know!

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
