APBA Blog mailbag: Golf questions

tgaChris S. has a few questions about APBA Golf.  Rather than go off of memory and slice, I thought I’d post them here and see if the APBA Golf aficionados might chime in.  Even better, I’m going to post this article to Facebook’s APBA Golf Country Club page and see if we get any responses.

Chris has a few questions.  He asks:

I am brand new to APBA golf. I have played a few rounds with the master rules and I have a pretty good feel for the game. But I still have a few questions.

1. Do you take the ball the entire carry distance into the trees on a mis-hit, or do you stop right where it enters the trees. It seems to make more sense to go the entire distance, otherwise you will never be stymied.

2. I also assume that the ball never rolls if it lands in the trees on a fly. Is this correct?

3. The latest version says the balls hit to the outside of a dogleg follow parallel to the centerline instead of applying the dogleg factor? Is this correct? It doesn’t seem logical.

4. Why are you not allowed to aim on the second shot if you are laying up?

Now, I’ll leave it up to you Golf experts.  Chris, if you’re on Facebook, you might consider following the APBA Golf Country Club page.  Great and helpful crowd there!

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. 1. Ball flys it’s entirety into the trees.
    2. Yes, that is correct.
3.No, it’s not correct. Take the dogleg into effect for all shots.
    4. Great question. Doesn’t make sense, but there a few things about this game that does not make sense. But a rule is a rule.

  2. Geoffrey Schmitt

My name is Geoff Schmitt. I have several golf tournaments that I played out on the pc. Would the APBA BLOG be interested in them? I can mail them in. I printed them out a while ago. But lost them off my pc.
