The Twin City Thunderchickens played out the balance of our June games for the Illowa APBA League yesterday.  Todd Ventresca and his Three Rivers Gamblers were left on the schedule.  Todd couldn’t make it back for the convention held in Illinois but thanks to Skype, we were able to get them in.  Not only is Todd a die-hard Pirates fan, he lends a unique perspective to the game as a college and high school umpire.

During the series, I was following the SABR Convention Trivia Contest on Twitter so we had some extra entertainment.

As for Tyler Colvin, well, things could be better for him.  It’s hard to go into a month with a .155 batting average and watch it go down more 11 points but Tyler managed to find a way to do just that.

He did come through with a couple key hits but darned if he didn’t have a lot of oh-fer games, too.  Now, Tyler is hitting a buck forty four (19 for 132) with four homers for the season.

Twin City Thunderchickens rookie reliever Aaron Crow (AXW) owns one of the stranger stats on our squad.  Check out his walk totals so far this year:

Twenty-eight walks in 27 1/3 innings pitched!  He’s actually second on the team in that category including starters.  We’re excited about Crow’s prospects but he’s got to start finding the plate.

On the plus side, starter Jeff Niemann won his first game in June after starting out 0-5.  He liked it so much he won his next start, this time a one-hit shutout.  He’s gotten his ERA to a more healthy 5.68 (it was hovering around 8.00 for a while).
